Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
