The Video Platform Grants The Community Authority to Decrease Artificial Intelligence-Made Videos in Personal Streams

TikTok is introducing a updated setting that permits them to cut down on the amount of artificial intelligence-produced videos appearing in their timelines. This move comes as the platform disclosed that it currently hosts over 1 thousand million AI videos.

Trial and Implementation

The update is being tested over the coming weeks before a full-scale release. This development coincides with a rise in AI-generated material, fueled by emerging AI video creators.

The Broader AI Trend

Recent reports that nearly one in 10 of the most rapidly expanding content creators on a popular video site primarily display AI-generated videos. A large amount of this output is deemed low-quality AI content, a phrase for inferior, factory-style content that is frequently illogical or surreal.

“We know from our community that a lot of users like content produced via AI tools, ranging from digital art to informative clips, and we intend to offer the community the option to increase or decrease of that, based on their own choices,” commented a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

The service shared that there are now 1.3 billion videos on its service tagged as made with AI. Collectively, over 100 m pieces of content are added to the app each day, making AI content a limited percentage of its complete catalog.

Customizing Your Feed

Members will be able to reduce or increase the amount of AI content they watch by opening the content preference feature in the platform and selecting “AI-generated content”. Other topics that can already be adjusted under the tool include current affairs, clothing, cosmetics, and choreography.

Content Labeling and Policies

Its policies oblige creators to tag lifelike AI-made content, and it forbids malicious fake videos of celebrities or critical incidents. Any realistic AI video that is without a tag can be deleted under its terms of service.

Additionally, the platform will henceforth apply an AI-generated watermark to content created with its proprietary AI systems, or detected by an cross-platform project for spotting AI-generated material. This action is aimed to help prevent users from attempting to bypass the labeling process.

Responsible AI Funding

The platform is also launching a two million dollar AI literacy fund for professionals and institutions to develop learning resources about responsible artificial intelligence. This initiative will benefit educational bodies focused on training programming and robotics.

Platform Protection

TikTok has justified its content review process, during discussion over proposals to lay off a large number of safety staff in Britain. It is planning to reduce a significant number of roles in its trust and safety team in its British office, with labor groups and digital protection specialists expressing worry that people are being substituted by automated systems.

A trust and safety lead clarified that staff-based oversight would still have a role, but automated tools can protect employees by filtering out the most graphic content prior to it gets reviewed by humans. The company announced a significant reduction in disturbing and violent content handled by content reviewers over the past year due to reliance on its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate staff and AI to maintain a secure environment,” she said. “We’ll have staff as involved in the system, but we also think it’s very important to reduce exposure to harmful content as rapidly, which is why a significant AI assistance is really helping us operate efficiently.”
